Ugly Sweater Party

Over the weekend Adam and I hosted an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party with our friends. It turned out so great, we had a blast!
There was plenty of good food. We had a chili bar with a really yummy hearty chili and my favorite cheesy potato soup. Served with bread sticks, cornbread and lots of toppings!

To really show off the ugly sweaters we decided to make a photo booth with silly props and Christmas lights. This was so much fun we laughed and laughed at the dumb pictures.
We played several games but the best were many minute to win it games. They were absolutely hilarious! From "Rudolf the white nose reindeer" to the "cookie monster" game, and the intense "deck the string" game. I've never seen some of these friends get so competitive.

Overall a great night! We had so much fun laughing and chatting with good friends till the wee hours in the morning. It was a great way to celebrate Christmas with fun people!

Belated Friendsgiving

Today I roasted my first ever turkey. The end.
Kidding not the end but whew! That should be celebrated in and of itself, but that's for another time. Today we celebrated thanksgiving again. This time we ate alongside our friends who had to work on thanksgiving or couldn't go home to celebrate with their families. I nervously accepted the challenge of fixing my first ever thanksgiving dinner. And now that it's over I'm really quite proud of myself. The task seemed daunting at first but once I was in my zone there was no stopping me.
I conquered my first thanksgiving dinner.

I made an autumn sausage stuffing. Packed full of green apples, pecans,  cranberries, and sage. It was absolutely as delicious as it sounds.
I also made a chopped salad with two types of apples, candied pecans and white cheddar.

Of course there was the turkey. And can I tell you how amazing it was? The skin was crispy and the meat was moist and flavorful and just divine. It's all in the brine I tell you. I let it sit in salty liquid overnight. The liquid was half water and half apple juice flavored with orange peel, rosemary, peppercorns, and brown sugar. Before I roasted it the next day I stuffed it full of fresh herbs and aromatics, onions, apples, even cinnamon sticks helped to contribute to the flavor of the meat.

Adam even carved it up like a pro!
The turkey was served along thyme-glazed carrots, garlic and Parmesan mashed red potatoes and homemade rolls.

There was plenty of sparkling cider to go around and of course we finished off the meal with homemade pie. Chocolate cream, pumpkin and pecan.
The chocolate cream pie was by far my favorite, but everyone had their own favorite picks.
It was a fabulous afternoon, filled with good food and great company.

Baby Shower

Best friend Tess and her husband are expecting. So our closest friends since forever (Jr. High...and before) got together, with our cute moms and had a yummy dinner and celebrated Tess and the little guy that will be here soon!

We ate at Cafe Trio which, as per usual, was divine. My new favorite there is the pasta carbonara - but if you try it be prepared, it's rich and heavenly. And creamy. And cheesy. And bacony.
And fattening. So that's good.

Tess got lots of cute stuff. Elephants seemed to be an unconscious theme of the night, which was awesome. And I got to feel the little guy swimmin' around in there!

Overall a wonderful night spent with girls I love and their amazing moms.

So I'm 13...

Yes it's true, the rumors are correct, I still love Britney Spears.

So much in fact that me and my best girlfriends made the trek to fabulous Las Vegas, to see the Goddess live in concert for her Femme Fatale tour.

It was awesome, which is to be expected, after all it is a Britney show.

Between all of the shopping, eating and dance parties we had a blast,

One last hurrah before everyone hits the road this fall.

So as we said when we were 13:

"Girl Power BFF's4L!"

Lately....

I made a chocolate cheesecake...weighing in at, at least 34 pounds.

Em's became my favorite Restaurant...yet again.

Because I got this

(pine nuts, Gorgonzola, chicken, asparagus, mashed potatoes, heaven)

In other food news, I roasted my first chicken.

(Lemons, rosemary, garlic, butter, holy holy chicken)

Husb and I celebrated one year of marriage here

He bought me a new dress

He's afraid of heights

Friends and I celebrated Tess at a bridal shower held in her honor

And then she was married...go her.

(and Kimball, go both of them.)

Lately life has been busy, with school, work and new projects and tasks that I'm never sure we'll figure out how to accomplish, but somehow always do. The mantra as of late has been

"One Thing at a Time"

The more overwhelming things get the more that is repeated in my mind.

One semester at a time, one day at a time, one hour at a time, even a minute at a time

Anyone can get through a minute...right?

I guess that's refreshing?

Twenty10

If it's fair to say - I'd say that 2010 was my best year. My favorite year. Ever. I'm sure that with time 2010 might loose its #1 spot due to change and unknown future events - but for now I like 2010 most. Amazing things happened - and if it's ok with you I'd like to take a second to remember.

I started out the year like this

In January I got a sweet job

In February I found Kansas

In March I got my picture taken

In April I had the best day ever

In May I got a new ride

In June I got a new job

In July my husband was 13 years old

In August we visited Mickey

In September he cooked his first meal

In October we turned into zombies

In November we had some family time

In December we were beach bums

Bring it on 2011 - I'm ready for you.
I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.

It Was Like Mixing Chocolate Chip Cookies With Sunshine...

Seriously sorry to post about her again but you really need to know how great the show was last night...

It was AH-MAZE-ING
(haha get it "ING")

After waiting in the snowy cold for an hour we got in and she did not disapoint.
We danced, and sang and loved every second of her adorableness.
But to top it all off she coverd Miss. Brtney Spears.
I thougth I was going to pass out.
Love Ingrid.

If my life were a musical...

She would provide the music.

And everything would be wonderful in the world.
Maybe it's the girl crush I have on Ingrid, maybe its just that I love the lyrics she writes,
maybe its because she wears stockings that are two different colors.
In any case I'm going to see her tonight and couldnt be more thrilled.
Yay.
